The Poet's System

Chapter 50: Path of Blood

Interaction with Silver remained casual—more like conversing with an AI than dealing with a sentient being. It spoke freely, offering up any information it knew whenever Daylan asked.

However, it grew hesitant when questioned by Astara or Medora, though it always answered to the best of its ability—unless it truly didn’t know.

The path Daylan and the others had chosen was undeniably difficult—something Silver had admitted on multiple occasions.

Although Zira wasn’t in immediate danger, except for Giselle’s hidden intentions, the outcome felt inevitable.

Daylan remained trapped in a kill-or-be-killed scenario because once they reached Adren, there would be no turning back.

As their conversation went on and dawn approached, Daylan suggested they return Silver to the bunker, given its unexplained disappearance—but Silver refused.

"You could hold me hostage—though I doubt it would make any difference to the organization since I’m no longer needed. Still, Gold and Platinum might come looking for me, but only if they’re permitted to. And if they do, you could take them hostage as well."

Daylan understood that Gold and Platinum could be taken hostage fairly easily, especially since they wouldn’t attack him—but something about it didn’t sit right with him.

"If I go back and Giselle asks where I’ve been, I won’t be able to lie to her. Besides, I think kidnapping me might’ve been a trap from the start."

Daylan’s eyes widened as he turned to Astara and Medora, who were equally shocked by the revelation.

But Daylan’s surprise wasn’t from the statement itself—he had sensed something was off from the beginning. What truly unsettled him was the possibility that he had suspected it was a trap all along but failed to piece everything together.
