Chapter 7: Rapid Improvement
Callum might have messed up on his first day of learning how to fight monsters, but that didn't mean he would remain a novice forever.
In fact, he had made a promise to himself: he would never again let fear control his actions. He had taken Alexa's advice to heart and followed her lead in training. They might have been the same age, but it was obvious she was leagues ahead of him when it came to combat.
"That's to be expected from the Vice Captain's daughter, after all."
The next day, they returned to the training room to continue practicing.
Just like the previous session, they found themselves in the same scene. They even expected the monsters to charge from the same direction as before...
But they were wrong.
This time, more monsters came from behind—right where Callum was facing.
"You got this, Callum. Seven wolves. It's really a simple job," Alexa said, calmly turning to face five wolves charging at her from the opposite direction.
Callum didn't reply. Instead, he took a deep breath and steadied himself.
He gripped his sword tightly, alert and ready for any sneak attacks. Luckily, he didn't need to worry—Alexa was holding her side perfectly, and there were no threats from the east or west.
The first wolf lunged toward him, but it was unfortunate. Callum had already anticipated the movement. With a swift motion, he slashed his blade across its neck, beheading it cleanly.
