Chapter 99: Martial skill: Flame Piercer
Adrian’s grin faded as quickly as it had appeared. The remaining three puppets didn’t hesitate. They lunged forward, their movements sharp and precise, their swords cutting through the air like extensions of their will.
But now, Adrian had a slight advantage. He had managed to reduce their numbers, even if by only one.
He sidestepped the first strike, pivoted on his heel, and unleashed another Scorching Sun Palm. The flames roared to life, but this time, the puppets were ready. They scattered, their reflexes inhumanly fast. The fire grazed one’s shoulder, but it wasn’t enough to destroy it.
Adrian’s face was gloomy but unsurprised. He had prepared himself for such a result. He only attempted it for the sake of it.
He knew he couldn’t rely on the same trick twice. It seems they had adapted to his previous tactic. Their rhythm was shifting, and their movements were tightening. It was almost as if the mist formation itself learned and improved from his actions.
Adrian needed a new strategy. Something faster, more aggressive. But also unpredictable. He clenched his teeth. He couldn’t rely solely on martial skills. They were adapting too quickly. He needed to be smarter.
The puppets attacked again, their coordination seamless. Adrian parried one blade, ducked beneath another, but the third sliced across his forearm.
Blood didn’t splatter as the sword made of mist seemed to just pass through his forearm. There was no physical injury, but the pain on his face couldn’t be mistaken. He hissed but didn’t falter.
Suddenly, an idea sparked in his mind.
He feigned exhaustion, letting his movements grow sluggish. His sword arm drooped slightly, his breath coming in ragged gasps. The puppets pressed forward, sensing weakness.
They approached him swiftly, intending to capitalize on his supposed weakness. However, with a sudden burst of speed, Adrian launched himself forward, targeting the puppet on the left.
