Tangled Hearts - The Alpha's Baby Mama

Chapter 221: It gets worse...

Selene POV

The first person I saw was Noah when I entered the pack house.

He was hunched over Reid, who was showing him something on a paper. His brows were furrowed in concentration and he seemed so immersed in whatever Reid was showing him, so it was normal for him not to notice my presence.

I continued watching, admiration dancing in my eyes. His colour was slowly returning at least. He had told me that last night, Kragen met him outside his office and gave him another tonic, that must work because he looked stronger than he did yesterday. A few seconds later, he and Reid left the pack house through the side entrance.

"I should work too!" I murmured to myself with a deep sigh. "I haven’t been able to tell Noah about my plans of not working and just taking care of the baby. At the same time, I knew that the paperwork in my office was piling up and that at this rate, I’d have to look for another Beta. Since Brooke left, there’s been calm in my house. My husband came to me each night, I didn’t have to worry about sharing him with another woman now.

Sighing, I made my way towards my office. My heels clicked against the polished marble floor. The corridor looked longer than today and I knew I was just tired... and also it could be one of the pregnancy symptoms. The corridor was lined with portraits of Moon Whisper’s Past Lycan Kings and Queens. Their eyes seemed to follow me, judging, questioning my right to be there.

Of all the rulers on the wall, it was only the Grand Lycan’s Queen’s picture that was missing and it was because she committed suicide. Taking your life in this part of our world is a great crime, so I understand perfectly why her picture wasn’t displayed.

Suddenly, the corridor seemed to tilt. My vision saw the corridor blurred into a collection of colours. I staggered, my hand reaching for the wall next to me for support. For a heart-rending moment, I feared that I would fall, and my other hand instinctively moved to protect my belly.

"Steady, Selene," I whispered to myself, closing my eyes and taking deep breaths. It was all tiredness. If I rest at least for the next four hours, my energy will be restored. When I opened my eyes again, I blinked in confusion. I was standing in front of my office door, with my hand on the knob.
