Xavier POV
I held Vina’s hands hoping she would make even the slightest signs that she was fine.
It was almost two weeks since she lost consciousness and I’ve contacted every doctor I knew but none has been able to resuscitate her since then and for probably the millionth time, I wish I had listened to Lucius. He had a way of seeing things up front.
He had warned me about Belinda but in my stubbornness, I had taken it lightly. Of course, I wasn’t going to do anything for her but she convinced me she was changed now and was tired of being a rogue. No other pack will take her in and the thought of her roaming in the forest all alone broke my heart. She was a beautiful woman and would be easy prey for anyone who came across her.
I was a fool for trusting her.
She had poisoned my food and I had delayed coming home because of a meeting, Maeve said that Vina thought my food looked my sumptuous than theirs and wanted to take a spoon... she went unconscious immediately. She was still alive no doubt but it seemed to me like she was losing consciousness every day.
"You should go and freshen up," Lucius came up beside me "I’ll watch her,".
"No!" I shook my head "I don’t want her to wake up confused. So, I’ll just stay here a bit more. Can you ask them to get me something to eat at least?"
"Xavier!" Lucius sighed and squatted near me "I know you’re distraught and it doesn’t help that Selene has been calling at least a dozen times every minute but you’re also neglecting Maeve. She needs her dad now because it’s been a traumatizing experience and she knows she cannot ask because she thinks it’s selfish. If you want Vina to pull through this, you should at least smell nice. Who knows, it’s the smell that’s keeping her from waking,".
A smile touched my cracked lips the happiest I’ve been in a long while. "What do we do about Selene though? If she calls one more time and there’s no response, she might come down here and if she ever finds out, she’ll never let me see the girls, ever," I cried.
"Don’t worry about, Selene," Lucius said quietly "She’s too busy fighting with her in-laws and husband to have the luxury of coming down here for a visit and I think you should respond to her call and if she asks for the girls, have Maeve answer twice. They’re twins and their voices sound alike so she won’t notice a thing,".
