Chapter 147: I will fake it until I make it...
Selene POV
The gentle rays of dawn crept through the curtains, splashing softly on my face as I stretched like a lazy cat. This was the best sleep I’ve had in a long time. My eyelids fluttered gradually rousing me from the depths of sleep. I noticed something was looming over me; so I closed my eyes and blinked severally to find Noah’s face above mine.
I looked at him dazedly for a minute trying to get my bearings as the memories of the previous night came flooding to me in a rush. A hiss escaped my lips as I pushed myself into a sitting position, and a scowl settled on my face. He took a step backwards, gazing at me blankly.
I can’t believe he had the guts to still come to me so early after what he did last night and he was not making any attempt to apologize. "What do you want now?" I growled, raising my right hand to smoothen my dishevelled hair only to discover that my hand was tied to something – no, someone. Surprised, I followed the cord made out of clothes noticing for the first time that Lucius was in one corner of the room leaning against the wall.
Wait! My gaze swept around the room which was much smaller than mine and didn’t resemble my room in any way. This was not my room. I closed my eyes and with my free hand massaged my temples, trying to remember where I was and why Lucius was in the same room with me. When I opened my eyes, my gaze landed on a sleeping Xavier lying beside me on the other side of the bed.
Between us was a mountain of pillows, clearly intended to maintain separation. My gaze returned to Lucius whose eyes were glinting with amusement as he watched me. He was enjoying this. Last night, after I left Noah’s room, I went straight to the girls and they were asleep already. Brenna told me Xavier left a few moments ago and they were waiting for me. Without thinking, I just rushed down to Xavier’s room but he was showering at the time.
That was all I could recollect. I didn’t know how the pillow forte came about or if we had any other conversation in that line. But I liked how Xavier had taken measures to prevent any mistakes still making sure we had a connection. I looked towards him again noticing that he no longer had that pale, sick face again. At least it worked.
"It’s morning," Noah stated flatly, his tone clipped. "Time for you to go back to your room. You should have left earlier... do you know how bad it will look if people should see you coming out of his room?"
I scoffed at the implication of his words detecting jealousy and hurt laced in his tone. Why hadn’t he thought of all these things when he was frolicking around with Brooke? The double standards!
"You didn’t have to come to get me," I retorted without remorse nodding towards the pillows and Lucius who was still quiet at the corner of the room. "As you can see, nothing happened. Xavier took extra care to make sure we did not put ideas intoanyone’ss head. Not only did he build this forte, he also had his Beta with us in the room for accountability, knowing how suspicious you’ve become of us when clearly, we do not do anything,".
My eyes bored accusingly into Noah’s, holding his gaze without flinching. I thought it would be easy for me to forget about him cheating on me with Brooke but up until this moment, my heart is still bitter whenever I think about it.
