Chapter 132: Will I die?
Noah POV
Brooke came towards me trembling, fluttering over me anxiously.
"Are you hurt? Did he get you? Should I get the pack doctor? Somebody fetches the doctor,".
Her frantic concern washed over me like a balm as it dawned on me that the gravity of what she’d done for me... for all of us, truly sank in. By Lycan law, killing another Lycan carries the heaviest punishment – unless adjudicated in rightful combat or trial. Worst still, Brooke was the daughter of a Pack Elder and she had just taken justice into her hands.
I pulled her into a fierce embrace, burying my face in her soft curls as a longing tremor ran through me. "You reckless, brave woman," I murmured hoarsely "What have you done? Why did you interfere? "
Brooke clung to me tightly, her lips brushing my ear "I did what was necessary to protect you. to protect us all," She drew back just enough to meet my gaze, her eyes burned with conviction as they bored into mine "I don’t regret it, Noa. Not for an instant. If I had another chance to protect you again, I will do it over and over and again,".
Something primal and possessive flared to life in my chest at her words. All my life, I don’t think any woman has protected me as much as this woman in front of me. For the first time, I noticed Brooke... cupping her face in my palms, I crushed my mouth against hers in a searing, desperate kiss. Brooke melted into me, with a soft whimper as she opened up to me and at that moment, Noah forgot about everyone in the hall with us. I forgot about Conrad’s swiftly cooling corpse on the floor.
All that existed to me in that moment, was this beautiful woman who had willingly risked everything for me. Our lips tangled with each other for the longest time until the need for air forced us apart. We separated from each other panting harshly. While I pressed my brow to hers, struggling to collect myself a few pointed coughs echoed behind me. Right... we had an audience.
My eyes caught two figures standing at the doorway. It was Kurtis and Lucius, they stood watching us expressionlessly. I could see hatred flicker through Lucius’ gaze but I care less. For the first time, I wanted to just be in the moment. The memories of Selene were behind me now.
