Selene POV
Kragen supported Xavier until we got to his car.
As soon as we boarded, the girls squealed with delight and threw their tiny hands around me and Xavier’s neck "Mom, Dad, we thought you wouldn’t come forever. Kragen says the pack is under attack. How about Faustina?" Vina asked peering out of the car.
"And Brenna too," Maeve piped in.
"They’ll be fine," Kragen responded before I had a chance "I promised that I’ll go get your mommy and your daddy. Did I fulfil it or not?" his eyes twinkled with amusement as he stared at the girls.
"You did!" they squealed in unison "You truly are the best,". Then Maeve turned to me "Mummy, do you know we were nearly ab..." she turned to Kragen for help "Abducted!" Kragen furnished. "Exactly! Abducted. Me and Vina were in the room playing when someone came in and dragged us out. It was so sudden that we couldn’t ask for help. Then they threatened to kill you and Daddy if we didn’t cooperate. They were about to put us in the car when this kind man intervened. He says he’s your friend. Is it true? Didn’t know you have friends, mummy,".
I turned my gaze to Kragen who was settling Xavier at the back of the car and our eyes met. He gave me a reassuring wink before he closed the door and went over to the driver’s side. "Yes, he’s my friend," I responded "What happened to the watch I asked you girls to always wear? It’ll automatically alert me if you’re in danger,".
"I’m sorry Mom," Vina pouted and scooted closer to me laying her head on my chest "We slipped it off when we were bathing this morning. We never imagined that things would get out of hand. But as soon as we’re back to Moon Whisper, we will always wear it, we promise,".
"It’s fine, baby," I ruffled her hair and relaxed against the seat as Kragen’s car roared to life and then he eased it into the road. As we drove out of the pack house, a pick-up jeep filled with masks soldiers drove in missing us by a few inches. My heart pounded in my chest as the car stopped in front of the pack house and the men jumped out.
