Chapter 126: A safe place...
Selene POV
I lay sprawled across my bed gazing at the ceiling.
I had overreacted, I knew that. There was a better way for me to go about everything instead of the way I did. Still, it was so refreshing to be able to stand up to my ex-mother-in-law in the way I did. Sighing, I rolled over to the other side of the bed and propped myself up on my elbows.
Try as I may, I couldn’t stop thinking about Xavier since last night. I was worried about him but also, I wanted to prove to Noah that I cared about him. If I couldn’t do these little things for him, he might become suspicious of me and that was what I wanted to avoid more than anything.
With Kragen coming to me some days ago, I knew he was tired of waiting. I had to meet his request or die and I didn’t want that. Not after everything I’ve been through. I deserve to live. I deserve to be a mother to my girls and watch them until they all achieve what they set their minds to. It is the men who need to suffer and not them. I was going to do it all on my own without their help.
A knock sounded on the door jerking me back to reality. "Come in," I said wearily and laid back on the bed. I heard the door open and then footsteps to where I was lying on the bed. "Faustina, is that you? How did it go last night? I hope you and your family stayed safe. Okay, I was thinking..." My eyelids fluttered open and my heart nearly flew out of my chest when I saw Xavier and Lucius’s face hovering over mine.
I scrambled from the bed into a sitting position as I turned to face both men stunned. Lucius was supporting Xavier who looked like he was going to fall at any moment. His lips were dry and cracked, his eyes were sunken and his face was white. Lucius had a bandage around his wrist and also a few bruises on his face and arms.
"W...What happened to both of you?" I asked eyeing them curiously. "Did you get into a fight or something? And shouldn’t you take him to the hospital, I don’t think he’s doing so well,".
"We didn’t miss our way to the hospital, Selene!" Lucius spoke up suddenly stunning me with the way he called my name without bothering with honorifics. "Xavier is your mate and he needs you to be fine now or else he’ll die. His hands and feet are cold. How can you even sit there and act like this doesn’t matter? It’s a miracle he made it through the night and...".
