Chapter 117: But hurting him by marrying his uncle...
Selene POV
"Lucius!" I screamed in my heart relaxing visibly as our gaze met each other. The last time I saw him was at the hotel after he came to save me. Since then, I’ve either been too busy to ask about him or I didn’t even remember he was here. Lucius was my best friend; he was the one who got me through the seven years I was married to Xavier. He was the reason why a portion of my mental health was preserved.
So, seeing him like this brought back fond memories. There was a time when I was so close to Lucius that the maids used to gossip that I was cheating with him behind Xavier’s back. But it was all lying of course. For one, Lucius was a stickler for doing the right thing and he was a die-hard loyalist. Although he came from a lineage of Betas, I can doubtlessly say that Lucius would still maintain the same level of loyalty he had now even if he was a mere Omega.
He raised a finger to his lips, in a shushing gesture before releasing me.
"Lucius," I exhaled, pressing a hand to my heart that was still pounding with fright. "You startled me," I queried. "What are you doing here?"
His eyes darted to the closed door and then back at me. without replying, he reached for my hand and pulled me towards the stairs. I allowed him to direct me and soon we were walking side by side in the garden, without saying a word to each other. The silence was so comfortable and peaceful that I didn’t want to end but I know it was more than that. Being with Lucius always had a way of putting me in the best of moods. It didn’t matter how angry I was, just his tenderness was enough to placate me.
When we got to one of the garden benches, he stopped and his gaze hovered over me for a moment before they rested on my face. There was a perplexed look in his eyes making it difficult for me to read his expression. Then. Slowly, the corners of his eyes crinkled in an almost smile of apology.
"I was coming to find you," he said finally. "Xavier wanted to see me and since I was coming to this side of the pack house, I decided to pop in and say hi to you. It’s been a while, Luna,".
"Like, a long while!" I sighed and cocked my head curiously at him "Of course, It feels like I hardly see you around these days. For a moment, I thought you had gone back to Greyhound and I keep forgetting to ask Xavier of you. It’s been chaotic for a while now and I’ve been meaning to thank you for that other day. I never had the chance to thank you properly but..." I paused inhaling and exhaling sharply "If you hadn’t shown up at that point and caused that distraction, I know things would have escalated. So, I’m super grateful,".
