Chapter 135
Lai Xueer and Niu Wei followed the elderly butler up the hillside.
Along the way, they saw a spotlessly clean swimming pool with crystal clear water and a glass greenhouse in the courtyard, filled with all varieties of precious flowers.
Besides that, there was a vast expanse of bright green grass. Occasionally one could spot small flags with little holes next to them, resembling the golf courses seen on TV.
The walk felt long, and Lai Xueer, in her high heels, was almost out of breath when she finally spotted a three-story building not too far away, looking as if it belonged in a fairy tale, brimming with dreamlike colors.
Seeing Lai Xueer panting and her makeup beginning to smear, the old butler chuckled.
"Sorry, there’s usually an electric cart to shuttle people along this stretch, but you’ve arrived late. The carts are all being used for tours."
Niu Wei respectfully chatted with the butler and then whispered to Lai Xueer.
"Do you know what Ling Ye’s family does? They seem to be quite wealthy!"
Although Niu Wei had been in the same class as Ling Ye, they hadn’t interacted much, so he wasn’t sure what Ling Ye’s family was like.
But Lai Xueer asked him back, "Do you really think this is a private residence? It feels to me more like one of those temporary sets they put up for filming."
Niu Wei might not have been good-looking, but he was quick-witted and grasped Lai Xueer’s implication immediately.
