Iris maintains her smile but inwardly feels thrilled to know about her relationship with Xavier.
"Lucian, please tell me, what was my relationship with Xavier Darkwood in the past?"
Lucian was stunned by her question. He opened his mouth several times but couldn’t bring out any words to answer her. It wasn’t due to an invisible force holding him back, but rather his shock at realizing that this time felt different whenever he tried to respond to Xavier.
’I can actually answer her?’ This realization startled him. Before he arrived here, he had anticipated the same outcome, being unable to provide her with an answer, just like he couldn’t share anything with Xavier.
"Are you certain you want to know?" he asked, noticing her delayed response. He added, "Aren’t you afraid of possible regrets after hearing this!?"
Lucian’s question left Iris deeply concerned. Countless questions flashed through her mind. Why did he say it like that? Was her past relationship with Xavier truly troubling?
Doubt arose in Iris’ heart, and she felt a twinge of fear as she anticipated his response. However, she swiftly pushed aside this fear.
"Please, tell me!" Those were the only words that escaped her lips. Her hand grew cold, and her eyes bore an intense gaze at Lucian.
"You were both engaged—" Lucian’s words lingered in the air. Still, he halted as he witnessed her nervous expression swiftly transform into one of joy.
