Chapter 128: Cassandra Refuses!
Iris gripped her grandmother’s hand tightly before continuing through her tears, "Forgive your ignorant granddaughter..." She sobbed softly. "But now, I have changed. I am no longer the old Iris who would trouble you. I will help you get through this ordeal, Grandma."
"Oh dear," Cassandra couldn’t help but pull her only granddaughter into her embrace, allowing her to pour out her sadness.
Hearing Iris weep like that could break her heart, but Cassandra couldn’t cry anymore since her tears had dried up.
Since discovering her illness in the past few years, Cassandra had cried almost every night. However, her tears weren’t shed out of fear of death but rather of concern for leaving Iris alone. At that time, Iris was still immature. She couldn’t bear the thought of leaving her alone.
Every night, she prayed to God, pleading with the creator of this life to transform her granddaughter into a better, more independent person. It seemed as though all her nightly prayers had been heard, especially after Iris woke up from her coma. Her granddaughter had gradually shed her immaturity and become gentler and calmer. Even God seemed to have softened Xavier’s heart, leading to his acceptance of Iris.
Recently, Cassandra had felt that God might be preparing to take her life, given how all her prayers had been answered. This made her happy and afraid at the same time that she would really leave Iris forever.
"Stop crying like a baby, Iris. Your beauty will be marred if you cry like this," Cassandra tried to cheer her up while gently stroking her back.
However, Iris’s sobs only grew louder, earning a smile from Cassandra.
"Iris, my dear... If my future grandson-in-law were here, he definitely wouldn’t like you anymore if he saw your tear-streaked face like this. So, you better stop now, huh!?" Cassandra cheerfully teases her.
