Chapter 83: Let’s End This Fake Dating!
"We’d better head back. It’s quite cold here..." Iris said while glancing at him. "I prefer to stay home and talk with you rather than being in a crowd like this—" Her voice suddenly trailed off when she noticed him looking at her.
"What do you want to talk about?" Xavier asked, returning his gaze to the street ahead, calmly driving the car on the empty road as they headed to his house.
Iris couldn’t suppress the questions that had been bothering her lately; she had to voice them. After taking a deep breath, she finally mustered the courage to speak her mind, "Why do you seem so kind to me, even though we’re not really dating, Xavier? Maybe you forgot... we are not a real couple; we are just pretending—"
Suddenly, the screeching sound of tires could be heard, and the car abruptly stopped. Iris was shocked, immediately turning her gaze to him. She was too startled by the sudden stop on the dark, empty road.
"Y-You—" she couldn’t continue her words when she saw his expression turn dark and cold. Silence hung in the air as they stared at each other, and the cold air inside the car seemed to match the chilly temperature outside.
After another few seconds passed, Xavier finally broke the silence. "Iris Gray, let’s end this fake dating—" His straightforward, cold tone made Iris freeze and feel puzzled at the same time.
"Y-you want to end it?" Iris repeated his words, still unable to believe what she had heard. She didn’t know what was happening at that moment, but she felt her heart tighten as if someone had pressed her chest. Her breath gradually became heavy.
She tried to maintain her composure, but her calmness didn’t reflect in her eyes; there was a mixture of confusion and disappointment there.
"Hmm, let’s end it," Xavier said. Iris didn’t utter a word; she only stared back at him. And saw him release his seatbelt, leaned back in his seat, and averted his gaze, focusing on the road ahead to avoid her.
