Chapter 81: Is He Flirting?
Iris found herself stunned upon waking in the darkness. Her surroundings were barely visible; it was night, and the only light source in the room was the moonlight seeping through the windows.
"Where am I?" Iris immediately sat up, taking a few seconds to recall her current location. "Damn! How could I oversleep?" She gently slapped her forehead, feeling foolish for oversleeping when she only intended to rest her back.
Glancing at her smartwatch, she realized it was almost 7 PM, and suddenly, Xavier’s face flashed through her mind.
Without hesitation, she got out of bed and made her way to the bathroom to wash her face. Overwhelmed by guilt, she hurried out of the bedroom and noticed the house was dimly lit, with only a few soft yellow lights in various corners.
Anxious that Xavier might have left, she called his name while searching for him in the living room, but she found no one there, not even in the kitchen.
Just as she was about to return to her room to find her cell phone, she spotted Xavier emerging from his bedroom. Her steps stopped when she realized that Xavier had already changed his clothes, his hair was still slightly damp as if he had just taken a shower.
"You’re finally awake, Iris!" Xavier said as he approached her. "Are you hungry?" He walked past her and turned on the living room and kitchen lights.
"Sorry, Xavier, I... overslept," she admitted with a guilty tone. "I’m not very hungry. How about you?"
"It’s okay," he replied. "I did the same; I took a nap." He wasn’t entirely truthful. When he returned from Silenthill after scolding Gavriel, he discovered Iris sound asleep in her room. Deciding to let her rest, he had left her undisturbed.
