Chapter 176: A Ploy
He looked down at Mr. Sherlock again. The man's chest barely rose with each shallow breath. There was no time to lose. He had to get him to the hospital before it was too late.
He was the only one who could prove that Hunter was innocent since he knew Hunter couldn't have done this while he was in police custody. Besides, he had been with Hunter earlier so it was impossible.
Thinking fast, Matthew pulled out his phone and dialed emergency services. "This is Matthew Lewis. There's a man here with severe blood loss from an apparent suicide attempt. He's still alive but barely. I'm taking him to the hospital now."
With adrenaline surging through him, Matthew lifted Mr. Sherlock into his arms. The lawyer was surprisingly light, his frail frame making Matthew feel a pang of guilt. He should have come earlier. Maybe he could have prevented this. Or maybe not since they could've tried killing him too since he didn't know how many they were.
As he carried Mr. Sherlock to the car, thoughts swirled in his mind. If this was an attempted murder, who would have done it?
Could it be Ivy? He had just had the conversation with her, she had even been the one to remind him about the lawyer so could she have done this? Was this her way of paying Hunter back for what he did to her?
He thought and then shook his head. She couldn't have done this. She didn't even know the lawyer's name or house and there was no way she could've pulled this off in less than two hours. Besides, if it were her, she probably would've killed the lawyer before mentioning him during their conversation.
This deed had to be done by someone who knew that Mr. Sherlock was the one handling late Mr. Stone's legal details and that could be the household staff and Mr. Stone's both children.
The household staff couldn't have done this because they had nothing to gain if Hunter was locked up for murder and Mr Stone buried.
