Hello, Ex! I Finally Found My Worth!

Chapter 119: Unprofessional

Claire sat at the expansive mahogany desk in Alex's office, papers spread across the polished surface like a chaotic battlefield.

The sunlight filtered in weakly through the tall glass windows, casting long shadows that matched her mood perfectly.

"That boy," she muttered under her breath, flipping through the stack of contracts with a scowl. "Just bent on using Emma's health as an excuse!"

Her neatly manicured fingers tapped the edge of the papers in frustration. Alex was at home, undoubtedly enjoying breakfast with Emma, while she was stuck here running JB Enterprise.

"I should be at home, relaxing, not here, cleaning up after him." She glanced at the clock, irritation tightening in her chest. Nearly noon, and still no word from him.

"He wouldn't even call to check on me, just focused on Emma!" She mumbled, a sigh escaping her lips.

She picked up the next file, her mind not really on the figures as much as on her brother's sudden change of priorities. Ever since Emma had come into his life, Alex had been... different. Softer. More distracted.

And yet, Claire couldn't find it in her heart to be truly angry about it. Since he was distracted in a good way.

The door opened, interrupting her thoughts. George, Alex's reliable and slightly nervous secretary, stepped in, holding a tablet and wearing his usual professional demeanor.

"Ms. Sterling, the potential investor for the Eastview project just called," he began, voice calm but hesitant.

Claire raised an eyebrow. "And?"
