Chapter 89: Kidnapped
"Chris?"
"Emma." His tone was serious, almost apologetic.
Emma's brow furrowed when she heard his voice. "What's wrong?" she asked sensing there was something wrong.
"There's a problem," he said, running his fingers through his hair.
Though he had talked to Alex and knowing that Alex was probably going to listen and confess to Emma, he also needed to talk to Emma and let her know the situation of things and his connection to Alex.
Her stomach tightened. "What kind of problem?" she asked, not sure she would like whatever Chris was about to say.
Chris hesitated, and she could hear him take a deep breath before answering. "Our deal. It's off."
Emma froze, the words sinking in like stones in water. "What?" she said, her voice sharper than she intended. "What do you mean it's off? Are you playing games with me, Chris? First, you say you can't help, then you agree, and now this? What the hell?" she asked, unable to keep her calm any longer.
"I know, I know," Chris said quickly. "It's not what you think. I have a good reason."
Emma's grip on the phone tightened. "What reason could possibly justify this?" she demanded, her frustration bubbling to the surface.
Chris sighed on the other end. "It's your husband. I just found out that your Alex, is my best friend, Alex."
