Hello, Ex! I Finally Found My Worth!

Chapter 8: Without A Fight

Jake sat in his office at the Ling Corp subsidiary, scrolling through his social media handles, a smile etched on his face as he read all the critic comments about Emma.

The reporters he tipped off to flood his house and ask about Emma had done exactly what he asked them to—stirring the public's sympathy while painting Emma as the villain and him as the victim. It was just what he wanted.

It was all Vanessa's idea, and she had been the one to call the news agencies, telling them they would find an interesting story at his house. A smile curled up his lips as he thought of her.

She, indeed, was a smart and cunning bitch, that knew just what he wanted.

Now, he had to make sure Alex, the adopted son, would never inherit what was rightfully his. He was sure Vanessa would do a good job helping him achieve what he wanted.

The knock on the door snapped him out of his thoughts. Before he could respond, the door creaked open, revealing his mother, Margaret, and his aunt, Claire and he immediately dropped his phone, subtly.

Their faces were etched with concern, making Jake grit his teeth in annoyance. He wasn't in the mood to be coddled, but he could use this to his advantage. If anyone could further his agenda, it was these two women.

Margaret rushed to him first, her eyes brimming with worry. "Jake, darling, are you okay? I saw the news. Why didn't you tell us about all this sooner?" she asked, her voice trembling.

"How could Emma do this to you? I've always known that girl was no good. But cheating? Getting pregnant by another man? And you didn't divorce her earlier? Why?" Margaret asked, and Jake sighed dramatically, leaning back in his chair as if weighed down by the world.
