Chapter 38: Bunny.
For a good minute nothing happened, she just stood there in silence but eventually she lowered the gun, not because she wanted to, but because she had to. In that moment she questioned her whole being, questioned herself and why in God’s earth she decided to actually do it. Was it justice? Was it greed? Why the fuck did she decide to actually point the gun at a known fucking serial killer psychopath who people call Don?
The people around him who didn’t even look like they were pressed by the gun, like they didn’t even care about it... like they already knew that she was no threat.
’Live today, question yourself tomorrow.’ that thought went through her mind even though it was the complete opposite of what his father taught her: ’Justice can never be overpowered.’
"Y-You won’t come after me?" She asked, her voice now even lower, more hesitant.
"I don’t chase people who walk away, and I promise you, the Cassian promise is something unbreakable." Joseph said and his voice was firm, telling her that he was telling the truth, like reassuring her...
So she did it... she put back her gun in the holster, and reached out for the gold bar in Joseph’s hands and just like that... the deal was made. She took it and slowly started backing up, keeping an eye on that manic smile on Joseph’s face, that smile was just horrifying to look at and then just turned, started to run as fast as she could with the gold bar in her hand.
She wasn’t even 20 meters away.
"So safety off..." Joseph switched off the safety as he pulled out his gun. "... aim." He whispered as he positioned himself like those competitive shooters do, one hand out, his body turned to the side."...and pull the trigger..."
The shot echoed through the entire forest as the gun nearly slipped from his hand as the recoil was far stronger than he had expected it to be, but he quickly recovered, aimed again, and pulled the trigger... once, twice... he emptied the entire magazine at her.
Everything around her was being shattered, splinters from the trees tore into her body, some of the bullets went straight past her head, but she held onto the gold like it was her lifeline, running... and not a single bullet hit her...
"Ahh fuck..." Joseph whispered as he lowered the gun, seeing her still up and running. "... I would be a horrendous hunter, huh?"
