Chapter 25: Broke.
As Pablo said it, Joseph was like he didn’t even hear it, or more like didn’t believe it. Like eating that steak, chewing it, all the flavour just hitting his sweet spot mixed up with the pain in his nose, and with the blood... like it all took away what just Pablo said.
But the thing is, he clearly said they are broke, which, as he swallowed the steak and finally looked at him, just doesn’t make any sense.
He clearly remembered when he was arrested, he was questioned where the fuck the 800 million disappeared from the account, how he spent it or where does he wired it... yeah, hundreds of millions were missing and it could be only done by Pablo and the others.
"800 million... that’s how much disappeared from the account." Joseph said as he looked at Pablo, and he was just smirking, but it was a nervous one.
"Yeah... 800 million, but it ended up being just a shy 600 million." He said, as if 600 million wasn’t much and Pablo noticed that Joseph was waiting for him to explain. "Thing is, to successfully evade every single agency on domestic and international level, we needed to reach out for professionals in the field and their cut was around 200 million, but the money became fully laundered and clean, with legitimate backing behind it so we could spend it how we want without any questions asked."
Around 25 percent cut... but it’s not that bad for crystal clear money... Joseph thought, because he remembered his father was getting finessed, at least that he could remember, he was many times angry and crashed out why money was missing, why they were taking 40 and 50 percent cut from the drug money.
"So then why are we broke?" He asked because Pablo had clearly said they only built the foundation of the family whatever that meant, but he also said they hadn’t bought a warehouse, started dealing drugs, or done anything else... and that was exactly why they were broke.
"We have no incoming money, but we needed to pay salary and keep people on bribes, which over the ten years cut a lot of it, not to mention that we bought top of the line weapons, armored cars, security systems all along the house... and of course the house itself."
Joseph noticed it, the part where Pablo said ’house’, his voice dropped low, even though earlier he had proudly talked about it.
