Chapter 17: Just another life.
It wasn’t an order, it was just his personal statement and, well, his emotion toward Siemon, who was one of many that fake ass testemony sent him to the prison for the fucking ten years, but he felt no anger for him, only pity as he looked at his body on the ground.
On the other hand, what the others felt was mixed emotions as they looked at his body on the ground. They knew they were going to be the same on the ground, dying like dogs and bleeding out, but seeing that he, Siemon, the one that betrayed the family, was laying on his own blood was... good. The mystery that they waited for years... they finally got their answer and, well, their own justice was served even though it wasn’t them who pulled the trigger.
The puzzle was finally together. It was finally clear what happened that night, that day, how they could kill their parents and crumble the family... it was an inside job. The family that once was the greatest went down on the road that almost every single big family does... their own betrayed them for something... but what was that something?
What was that thing that they offered Siemon? He had millions, his pay was hundreds of thousands per month, he had influence, he was beside the greatest gangster ever known in the nation... what was the thing that changed his mind to betray them?
"Free me." Joseph spoke again, and one of the men cut the rope of his legs and hand and he was set free... like finally free, and as he got up and looked at them, he saw how the table had turned.
They were all, in a way, lost. What the fuck is happening and how can it be happening? How could it have happened back then, how did nobody notice it?
The questions in their mind were greater than their emotions.
But the question was also in Joseph’s mind as he turned to one of the men. "How?" He asked the question. He didn’t need to ask it specifically because everybody understood what he was referring to.
"False promises." One of the men said as he pulled down his mask, and there it was... the pirate. Blind in one eye, his face carrying the years of suffering and experience, his hair grey as well as his beard. "He was greedy... no, he was greed himself, boss." He looked up at Joseph. "He wanted more power, he wanted to be in the inner circle of the politician, to be like how your father and their father were... so we promised him that he will get the family, and well, we tortured him and made sure he knew that if he didn’t side with us, not just him but everybody that he knew would die."
