Lyra woke with a jolt.
Loud, frantic knocks echoed through the hallway.
She sat up immediately.
"Lyra? Why are you so loud first thing in the morning," Elira mumbled from beside her, rubbing her eyes.
The knocks came again, faster this time.
Lyra threw off the blanket and rushed to the door. Elira followed right behind her, more alert now.
When Lyra pulled the door open, she froze.
Seris was standing outside.
Her face was wet with tears. Her eyes were red and filled with panic. She was crying so hard her breaths came in hiccups.
Lyra bent down.
