Chapter 137: My Childhood Felt Like Hell

Abigail frowned as she looked at the picture again. She felt confused because the woman in the photo didn’t resemble Walter Jones’s wife.

"Abby, come join me! Let’s watch a movie before we head home," Sawyer called, distracting Abigail from her thoughts.

She nodded, set the photo frame back down, and sat beside Sawyer. She tried to focus on the movie he had chosen. Still, after a few minutes, her curiosity about his mother grew. Some questions, and they may be delicate questions, filled her mind.

Abigail’s gaze had shifted from the television to him.

Noticing her disinterest in the movie, Sawyer glanced over and asked, "Did you not like the film? What kinds of movies do you prefer? Romance? Horror? Thriller? Or maybe a superhero movie?"

She smiled at him and shook her head. "I’m not really interested in watching movies right now because I want to ask you something. Sawyer... can I ask you?"

Sawyer took his time responding, gently placing his hand on her warm cheek and rubbing it affectionately. His eyes traveled from her inviting cherry lips to her delicate nose, finally settling on her beautiful gray eyes. He noticed a flicker of confusion in her gaze.

A loving smile spread across his lips as he said, "Since when do you need my permission to ask? You can ask me anything, Abby. I promise I will answer honestly..."

Abigail blushed at his sweet words, and his warm touch quickened her heartbeat.
