Only then did Abigail realize that the middle-aged man with gray hair by the door was the same person who had brought her breakfast.
’Paul? Wait! I know that name and face. Why is my homeowner’s butler here? And did he just call Sawyer "Master"?’
Abigail wondered, furrowing her brows as she tried to catch another glimpse of the man. Still, the door closed again before she could see him.
"Sawyer?"
"Yes," he replied, forcing a smile; however, his smile quickly faded when he heard her next question.
"Why did I see my homeowner’s butler, Paul, here? And why did he call you ’Master’? What is he doing here? Are you renting this house too?" she asked, confused to see the man who had brought her breakfast the day before in Sawyer’s house.
Sawyer nearly laughed at her last question, but he took a deep breath and tried to appear serious.
"Abby, there’s something I need to tell you. But before that, I apologize if you find it unacceptable..." Sawyer hesitated when he saw her frown deepen. He struggled to find the right words, hoping not to shock her with the news he was about to share.
"Sawyer, please don’t make me worry," Abigail said, her fists clenched tightly. She felt a sense of dread, fearing that he had made a significant mistake.
