Chapter 83: You Have A Girlfriend?
Nathaniel and Martha agreed with Walter, both looking at Sawyer and waiting for him to respond.
However, Sawyer continued to give them the silent treatment.
"What your father said is right, Sawyer," Martha added impatiently, hoping to encourage him to speak. She placed her hand on his to draw his attention. Meeting Sawyer’s calm gaze, she continued, "Serena won’t reject your proposal this time, dear. Trust Grandma, okay?"
"Yes, Sawyer, if you’re worried that Serena will reject you, I can talk to her grandfather to ensure she will not..." Nathaniel chimed in, trying to help his wife convince Sawyer. "But don’t worry too much because, from what I hear from Old Philips, he is the one who’s urging Serena to settle down with you."
Feeling increasingly frustrated by their insistence, Sawyer finally spoke up.
"Grandpa, Grandma, please stop! Just stop with that idea!" Sawyer said calmly, though he was struggling to suppress his anger. He didn’t want to disrespect these two people he loved, but he also couldn’t let them dictate his life, especially when choosing the woman who would become his wife.
Neither of them said anything as they looked at each other. Sawyer felt a slight calm envelop him, but when his gaze fell on his father, his emotions stirred again.
"And Father, you don’t have to worry about my future. It’s my decision who I want to marry, if I choose to marry at all. If you’re concerned about our family lineage, you can ask Harvey. He is the face and the family’s future, not me."
Sawyer’s eyes remained locked on his father, who seemed to tremble slightly, on the verge of saying something, but no words came out.
