Chapter 57: Sawyer, Do You Like Me?
Abigail’s jaw dropped as she took the stunning view near the bonfire. Earlier, she hadn’t noticed the string lights hanging around the area. Still, she saw it surrounded by warm, yellow light bulbs that created a perfectly cozy atmosphere.
"Wow, the light and ambient setting is so cozy and beautiful, Sawyer..." Abigail commented while walking near the fire and setting the vegetable bowl on the table. "How did you manage to do all this alone? And you even grilled the meat..." She was delighted to see the marbled meat sizzling on the grill.
"You like it?"
"No, I don’t like it. I love it! It’s like—" Abigail’s voice trailed off when she turned to see him standing just a step away, so close that she felt a sudden rush of nerves.
She tried to move, but a seat behind her and the bonfire in front of her blocked her way. She froze, trying to act casually and hide her nervousness.
"I’m glad you like the setting, Abby. I put a lot of effort into hanging the string lights. Hearing that you like, it makes my heart swell. My plan for a romantic dinner under the starry sky was successful." His casual words made Abigail’s heart race.
She lowered her gaze to their feet, unable to respond to his flirtatious words. This time, she decided to try to ignore it.
"Alright, let’s sit," Sawyer said as he settled into the chair near the grilling pan, gesturing for her to sit beside him. He busied himself, making sure the grilled meat cooked perfectly.
After a while, he placed a few slices of beautifully grilled meat on an empty plate at the small table next to Abigail.
