Chapter 81: Jailbreak
“I thought there were reinforcements coming?” Derek asked, trying and failing to avoid showing how his heart had leapt into his throat at that thought.
“There are,” Isaac confirmed. “But we can’t communicate from in here, and we need to get as much information as possible to Admiral Miyazaki to make sure the next fight doesn’t turn into another massacre. Also, you’ve got most of a planet’s worth of monsters coming down on your heads; getting the hell out of here would probably be a good idea.”
Then, he grinned.
“So, permission to come aboard, Captain?”
Wasn’t he already abo- … nope, he was floating a few centimeters above the armor, tiny flames flickering beneath his soles.
Derek bit back a chuckle as he gave his reply.
“Granted.”
“Now, let’s go meet the admiral,” Isaac decided, quickly making his way off the ship and towards the airlock, moving at a pace that was just barely below what would require Derek to scramble to catch up.
They passed several sailors in the corridor, each of whom did a double-take upon seeing him follow his brother, seemingly having mistaken Isaac as being him, but no one actually commented until they reached the kitchen and the admiral sitting therein.
