“I want to explore that place. But I’ll only take along volunteers; I won’t make anyone come with me,” Derek announced.
In lieu of a verbal answer, Ye-in’s hand smacked against the back of his head. He might have dodged, but he hadn’t heard her move over the sound of Atticus facepalming.
“You’d have to be crazy to go. And you know we’re all just as insane as you, when it comes to stuff like this.” She added with a brilliant grin. “The real question is: who’s staying behind to watch the ship?”
That was a good question. And one that left a deafening silence in its wake.
You could have heard a pin dro- … Derek’s head whipped around at the sound of a clatter, only to see Atticus picking a small sewing needle back up off the table.
The man shrugged. “I’ve always wanted to do that.”
Derek snorted. “Well played.”
It wasn’t an answer, though, so things fell silent once more until Mimi spoke up.
“I’ll stay. I’m stronger in here than out there, and I can counter any exotic nonsense they throw at the ship,” she said, voice small.
