Chapter 787: If Only Our Families Had A Different Story [Unexpected Kiss]
It caused her deep emotional turmoil. It was as if she were being torn in two, her heart aching with the pain of losing her master, even as her mind screamed that it was the right thing to do.
The knowledge that the person she loved and respected was destined to be her enemy, that their paths were fated to cross in violence and war, only added to her pain.
"Shenlian Yingyue, I command you to stop! Can’t you hear me? Don’t look at me like that! Don’t speak to me in this way!" Xiong Zi Ying’s voice cracked, revealing the depth of his desperation. Anger surged within him, yet there was an undercurrent of pleading, a vulnerability that made his words tremble. This was the first time he had called her by her full name, as if in that moment he recognized the entirety of her being.
"Master, I love my father more than anything in the world," she said, her voice quivering with emotion. She was crying inside, her soul was screaming in pain. Every fiber of her being fought against cutting this connection, but she knew that it was a sacrifice she had to make for the greater good.
"I never wanted this outcome. If only our families had a different story, if only our clans could live in harmony! I wish my father hadn’t been the one to take your brother’s life or played a part in the downfall of the Xiong Clan." As she spoke, her eyes squeezed shut, trying to block out the torrent of hurt and regret that threatened to overwhelm her.
"But I can’t change the past," she continued, her voice becoming firmer. "And I will not let anyone paint my father as a villain in my heart. My loyalty and love for him run deep, and I will not let anything come between us. If anyone dares to attack him, they will have to go through me first, even if that person is you." As she opened her eyes, her eyes turned cold, but a hint of struggle and indescribable pain flashed in those pair of usually serene mesmerizing eyes.
She spoke of her father with pride and admiration, she made it clear that she would not allow anyone to harm her father or paint him in a negative light, and that she would defend him with everything she had.
As she spoke, his heart grew heavy with anger, sorrow, regret, guilt, and a crushing sense of defeat. He felt his blood boil with indignation, resentment, and a burning sense of injustice as she continued to berate him. Her words cut him deep, filling him with a sense of despair, hopelessness, desperation, and an unrelenting fury.
"Shenlian Yingyue!!!" Xiong Zi Ying’s jaw clenched in rage as he struggled to restrain himself from lashing out at her. He didn’t know what to do, what to speak, because he couldn’t think of a better outcome at all. Either way, they were destined to draw sword at each other to protect and avenge their loved ones.
Was this how it would all end? He couldn’t bear the thought of it, ending things with her felt impossible, and he dreaded the idea of severing the bond they shared. The thought of facing her father, of having to hurt her, made his stomach twist in knots.
He didn’t want to think about the day she would look at him as if he were a stranger, her eyes cold and guarded, as if he might become her enemy. He wanted to protect the trust and comfort she had built around him, and he just couldn’t bear the idea of losing it!
Xiong Zi Ying’s face was a mix of emotions, his breath uneven, as if he might break down at any moment. But she showed no sign of wanting to connect with him, as if she had already made up her mind. It felt like a choice that would push them to a place they could never come back from, a choice that would keep him forever distant from her.
