As Kaya scanned her surroundings with sharp, alert eyes, her brows suddenly twitched. That annoying chirping... again. Left. Right. Pocket. Ugh.
She sighed deeply, yanked her hand into her pocket, and pulled out the tiny, noisy culprit—the sparrow.
Grabbing him with two fingers like he was the world’s most irritating pebble, she held him up at eye level, her jaw clenched tight.
"Listen. I’m saying this for the last damn time." Her voice was low, dangerous. "If you really don’t want me to throw you at that lion and use you as bait—then just shut. the. fuck. up."
The sparrow froze.
For a second.
And then—
"CREEEEEKKKK!!!"

The sparrow screamed loud enough to startle the birds in the trees behind them.
