Chapter 151: A Little Revenge, A Little Joy
Micah clenched his jaw. His fists were pressed tightly against his chest as he glared at Clyde through the thick lenses of his glasses. His chest rose and fell quickly. His whole body was tense.
He was furious. Absolutely furious. But he couldn’t afford to lose his temper, not now. Not here. Not in front of Clyde. If he snapped, he would blow his cover.
He swallowed hard, then forced out a stiff voice. "Excuse me, I’ll go freshen up..." his voice trembled as he stood up and walked off. The bathroom door slammed behind him with a loud bang.
In the quiet hotel room, Clyde watched Micah’s reaction calmly. A hint of satisfaction gleamed in his eyes, like someone who had just made the winning move in a very long game.
Clyde thought back to the expression on Micah’s face, angry, aggravated, embarrassed, and shook his head lightly. Of course, Micah had no idea that Clyde already knew. That he had seen through the disguise long ago, Asena, the pretty girl persona with careful smiles and soft-spoken words. And because of that, Micah had assumed he was actually seeking a fake partner.
If it weren’t for that truth, Clyde would have never entertained the thought of showing up to a banquet with someone on his arm, let alone a fake girlfriend. He hated attention. He didn’t do public appearances or like to interact with others.
But tonight, something had changed.
Tonight, he had realised something.
He didn’t want to see Micah, disguised or not, getting close to anyone else.
Just the thought of someone else’s eyes on Micah, someone else obsessed enough to chase after him in a gala made something in Clyde twist tight and mean. One he could no longer ignore or pretend didn’t exist.
He couldn’t no longer lie to himself. This wasn’t about protecting Micah like he had tried to convince himself before. It wasn’t about keeping him from getting hurt the way his uncle, mother, or father had.
