Chapter 75: How Accidentally Move In With the Real Young Master
Inside Edwood’s old apartment, after Silas’s mother’s unexpected visit, Micah looked at Darcy for a second and blurted out, "Let’s get you moved out of here!"
Darcy’s eyes widened, caught off guard.
Noticing the surprise in Darcy’s eyes, Micah tried to soften the urgency in his tone and make it sound more reasonable, less like an impulsive decision. "I’m just worried they’ll come back," he said, running a hand through his sweat-dampened silver hair. "Or worse, do something shady. What if you are not home and they harass your mother and Nora? What then?"
Darcy’s expression faltered. He looked away, his lips pressed into a thin line. His long eyelashes fluttered, blinking rapidly.
Micah saw the hesitation and jumped in before the silence stretched. "Is it because of the money? I can lend you some. Don’t worry about it. You can write me an IOU if it makes you feel better." He added in a rush.
"Please? I just can not be at ease like this. We are going to move to the university’s dorm anyway, right? There are many empty apartments under my family’s name. We could choose one near uni, and you can pay rent if you want to..." Micah paused, scratching his nose, "Anyway it’s my fault. I was the one who filed the complaint. If I hadn’t, maybe they wouldn’t have come here and bothered you...."
Darcy raised a hand gently, signalling him to stop. But he didn’t speak immediately. After a few seconds, he sighed quietly and shook his head.
"It’s not just the money," he finally said. "Though... yeah, I won’t lie. It’s tight. Especially after the hospital transfer...right now, we are already in debt. Adding rent for a new place... we can’t afford it. But that’s not all of it."
Micah frowned, watching him carefully.
"In this neighbourhood," Darcy continued, "everyone knows each other. They look out for us. My Mum and Nora will be safer here than they would be in some random apartment where no one gives a damn."
Micah bit his lips and did not insist anymore. He understood Darcy’s reasoning, but that didn’t make him feel any better. He wanted to bring up what happened last time in the alley, to say that Aidan had kidnapped Darcy’s sister right here in this neighbourhood in the novel...However, one was fictional, and the other felt too much like bragging about his heroic cool stunt...
