Chapter 328: Face-Off (1)
The group of less than a dozen when they first arrived quickly expanded, and they were followed by several elites of the empire forces. The situation on the front lines had become so intense that the empire’s offensive became even more aggressive.
The front line had to do their best to distract the organization’s forces as well as the leader, most importantly him.
As time passed and their position gradually approached the center, or where possibly the leader was, Arren’s attention became so preoccupied that he didn’t even have the time to observe his surroundings.
All that he could do was follow Spade and the others. Arren was even more focused on calming himself than thinking of anything else. Clenching his fist, he mustered all of his courage and stopped himself from trembling.
The fear, the despair... They were slowly rising and trying to consume him again. Arren’s footsteps also became heavier, and so did his breathing. Sweat began to appear on his forehead while he swallowed the forming lump in his throat.
Soon, he clasped his hands together, and as he looked at them, Arren only realized that they were trembling. He was trembling.
Arren didn’t even feel it, or his mind was too distracted by forcing himself to walk in the direction that his body was firmly rejecting. He breathed hard and gritted his teeth to follow, fighting the impulse to escape.
No, I’m tired of escaping. I won’t do that anymore. I will overcome this demon.
Thinking of his resolve, of the people that further solidified this determination, and of the reliable back of someone he loved, Arren continued on his steps, ignoring how uncooperative his body was.
Arren’s eyes widened slightly, and his gaze focused on Spade. At some point, a familiar scent lingered in his nose. And it wasn’t a simple smell, but something that even calmed his nerves and let the suffocating emotions dissipate a bit.
