Duke Merphen was someone Spade somehow anticipated to be on the list. It wasn’t that he was incompetent or hard to trust, but because of his closely-knit relationship with the House of Ford.
While Marquis Ford married Princess Noreen, his aunt, the noble house had always been a left faction rather than a royal faction. They always had marriage alliances among them, which made them one of the strongest noble alliances in the empire.
Because of it, he already had suspicions about Duke Merphen. However, he might not be surprised, but that didn’t mean he wasn’t disappointed to find out his suspicions were confirmed.
After all, the House of Merphen was one of the pillars of the empire, and this betrayal still had a significant effect on the result of this war.
Not to mention that Duke Merphen was famous among the youths of the empire due to his advocacies, which was also a factor they needed to consider.
As he went through the list of the spies from the various evidence and conducted interrogations, Spade’s anger almost exploded right there and then. There was one from among the royal faction, which made him realize just how much his father endured to stop and wait for the right time, even choosing not to give himself justice after all these years.
"Team 1 will start in three days." Spade started giving orders calmly, but the underlying impatience couldn’t be controlled. He raised his head and stared in front of him, his gaze carried a dominating spirit that no one could even defy.
Team 1 was the team that was stationed outside of the capital; they needed to get hold of the nobles that were in their domain first. Even though the current autonomy of the empire wasn’t the same as in the Old Empire, where nobles had their own fiefs, it was still almost the same, as they govern the area and the empire almost never inspects them unless absolutely necessary.
This was a hidden danger; Spade could almost confirm himself even without investigation that these domains were where the organization housed their forces when they attacked the capital.
