Chapter 37: Who Ordered You?
Arren opened his eyes a bit and then focused on the wall. As reality set in, the red plush lips were bitten. His Mister Investigator’s name was Spade, and his true identity was the Emperor. Fuck, what a mess. His mind gradually calmed down, but now his heart and feelings were in turmoil.
His thoughts returned to the hours before when he discovered Spade’s identity. Their ambiguous moments together and the comfort and security the alpha provided him since he met him.
Arren was initially drawn to Spade’s attractive appearance; he thought Spade was hot, and his mature stature was exactly his type. Then, he flirted with him because it was fun, that’s all. He didn’t know when it all became true.
He was reminded of the alpha’s question: Did he really not know why Spade was helping him? Of course, he knew. He wasn’t as innocent and naive as he seemed. He also had the impression that Spade was interested in him and that the alpha was attracted to him.
Otherwise, as Emperor, he would not be personally invested in his case at all. Arren remembered how he called the alpha and readily agreed without much thought. Also, the way he flirted with him and his tolerance for him. Spade wouldn’t put up with him if he didn’t seem interested in him.
Now that was a problem... Even though he was confused, Arren knew his heart and feelings were genuine. Fuck, how did this happen? Arren bitterly closed his eyes again. He swore he wouldn’t become a plot variable, but the way things were going, he doubted he could still be the background extra he should and wanted to be.
This... Arren was torn between two choices. To become what he has always been or go with the flow and accept everything that happened. However, Arren had the feeling that no matter what he chose... his life would never be the same as it used to be.
Arren didn’t realize he was right about that one. No matter his choice, he couldn’t return to how things were before he met Spade.
While Arren may be hesitant, Spade would not necessarily give him a choice. It was almost impossible for Spade to let go of Arren now since an alpha’s attention to an omega could also mean that he wanted to possess that omega.
