Chapter 1625 - 1677: The Blurred Man
This is strange. The camera footage, although other people’s faces are not clear, is somewhat visible. At least, identifiable details in their clothing and some features on their faces can be recognized. But the appearance of this suspect is blurred, like the external physical interference caused by moisture on old videotapes.
The police technicians quickly got involved, believing that someone had deliberately damaged the video’s clarity. But after some study, they found the video wasn’t tampered with.
After retrieving the surveillance from the main and side entrances and spending half an hour going through them one by one, a potential suspect was found, yet the images remain fuzzy and unrecognizable.
The police hit a deadlock, having reviewed surrounding surveillance, finding no footage of the suspect at the parking spot, but detecting them at a nearby intersection. The suspect was carrying a large package, the same one carrying explosives, and was seen heading towards the park.
Soon, the police harbored a new suspicion: was the suspect targeting Li Yifei or aiming to blow up the Ferris wheel, or perhaps initiating a riot? If it was the former, it’s not the worst, as it only targets Li Yifei or the Li family. But if it’s the latter, aimed at everyone, especially given they have explosives, it’s extremely dangerous. In crowded places like malls, the damage could be far greater.
For Li Yifei, if the suspect is after him, it’s definitely bad news.
The police were baffled as to why the suspect’s face appeared blurry in the video, but Li Yifei understood. Gathering True Qi at the face can achieve this effect. Although, it consumes quite a bit of True Qi, especially when the suspect maintained this disguise across all accessible surveillance footage.
Li Yifei guessed the suspect might only change the area around the nose and mouth with True Qi, given transforming the entire face would be too draining.
It’s clear they’re targeting him or the Li family. Especially with the hand wave gesture before leaving, Li Yifei recalled and confirmed the suspect is indeed aiming at him.
A master! With such a person threatening the Li family, Li Yifei immediately became alert and directly said to Song Ranmin, "Director Song, this person is highly skilled and difficult to deal with. If there are clues, please be sure to inform me, I’ll deal with him."
"No problem; I will supervise the investigation and notify you immediately if any news comes up," said Song Ranmin. He understood the suspect in the video is nothing simple, and was glad to hear Li Yifei offer as such.
Li Yifei then bid farewell to Song Zhentao and others. The rescue work was nearing completion; apart from a few people who were injured or almost scared out of their wits, there were no casualties. However, the expensive Ferris wheel required major repairs, so Li Yifei decided to head home.
Back home, Li Yifei summoned the women of the house and recounted the day’s events. Su Mengxin and the others had already heard from Chu Xiaoyao about what happened, knowing the incident was someone purposefully targeting the Li family.
This is major; despite the Li family experiencing constant turmoil since its founding, facing such masters is scarce. Allegations from the likes of Yanagio Inujiro, Satan, and saints are limited. Such masters shouldn’t appear freely in Huaxia; even reclusive masters like Murong Yuanqing wouldn’t allow it.
Yet, the suspect appears clearly East Asian, yellow-skinned, and about 175 cm tall. Age is hard to gauge, a man seen often on the streets.
Li Yifei can sense the suspect, but only within range. If the suspect intentionally conceals their presence, unless very close, Li Yifei wouldn’t detect them.
The suspect remains hidden, while he and his family are exposed...
This feeling is deeply unsettling, akin to having Martial strength but nowhere to use it, while being at others’ mercy.
Whether Witchcraft or other enemies, Li Yifei is desperate to locate the suspect, willing to risk his life to confront them, especially given their attempt to harm his two daughters and Chu Xiaoyao. It is Li Yifei’s reverse scale.
Sadly, he knew wrong. Even knowing a bit would do, but Li Yifei was on the Ferris wheel at that time. Had he been within ten or twenty meters of them, he could’ve seen the suspect’s appearance, despite them blurring it with True Qi.
Within that range, Li Yifei couldn’t have let the suspect escape.
In the evening, Li Yifei seemed to lack appetite. After dinner and escorting his daughters to their rooms, he rejected the women’s company and wandered the house alone. He sat by the pond, lost in thought. Michelle approached, crouching beside him, tilting her head, gazing at him sweetly.
After a while, Li Yifei turned his head, looked at Michelle, stroked her cheek, and smiled, "I’m fine; I’ll be okay soon."
Michelle returned a gentle smile, pursed her lips, held Li Yifei’s large hand against her cheek, remained silent, her gaze tender.
Li Yifei couldn’t resist such pure and warm eyes, feeling a melting sensation. Two minutes later, Li Yifei smiled and asked, "Would you blame me? If one day you get into danger and I couldn’t rush to save you."
After considering earnestly, Michelle smiled broadly, shook her head slowly, "Of course not, why blame you, my husband."
"Because I put you in danger."
"But it hasn’t happened. I’m doing fine, happy, worry-free, joyful every day. Plus, I’m not living in fear. So, my husband, don’t blame yourself. Since choosing this path, this life, and you, everything, regardless of outcome, is without regrets."
"Really?"
"Really. I’ve never lied to you, always speak from the heart—the sisters too. Besides, it’s all just conjecture right now. Maybe the suspect meant to harm someone else, coincidentally where you were, and thought, ’Here’s a super master, not good; I can’t complete my task today, gotta run...’ So, he fled!"
Li Yifei shook his head, chuckled, patted the space beside him, "Come, sit here."
Michelle’s words alleviated Li Yifei’s little frustration.
Obediently, Michelle sat by Li Yifei’s side, leaning against his shoulder, gazing at the stars, pointing out those shining to Li Yifei, introducing their corresponding constellations.
Michelle, often shy, blushed again when mentioning Orion Constellation, as Li Yifei’s mischievous hand found her waist, gently kneading, causing Michelle to tremble, goosebumps forming nearby.
Wanting to escape, yet reluctant. She quietly endured, soon surrendering to softness.
Li Yifei didn’t proceed further; with Michelle already resigned, exploiting her would be unjust.
Embracing for a while, Li Yifei held Michelle’s hand, and both returned, with Su Mengxin noting, "Just in time, give us a hand. We have some data here for you to sort out."
Xu Yingying added, "Yes, come quickly, we’re almost exhausted."
On the outing, everyone had their tasks, with countless things to manage regarding the newly accepted industries. Hence, even back home, they couldn’t rest but had to work through the night sorting things out.
Li Yifei responded, releasing Michelle, following their instructions, and busied himself.
After assisting for over three hours, Li Yifei felt dizzy; not focusing on one task but dealing with Xu Yingying’s sudden file, being called to help. Just finished, He Fangqing tossed another file, requesting Li Yifei’s aid.
Compounded this way for over three hours, remaining clear-headed seemed miraculous.
Wiping non-existent sweat from his forehead, Li Yifei considered swapping Shanshan back, opting to care for Lin Qiong.
Tonight, Shanshan asked Lin Qiong to let Li Yifei handle family matters.
Finishing up, everyone snacked lightly before sleep, leaving Li Yifei and Su Mengxin. After showering, they lay in bed together.
Su Mengxin, resting on Li Yifei’s arm and her hand gently tapping his chest without speaking. The window opened, cool breezes replacing the daytime warmth, comfortable with covers neither hot nor cold.
Breaking the silence, Su Mengxin kissed Li Yifei’s face, saying, "Husband, do you think our child might already be quite tall? You’re tall; I’m not short. Certainly, our child will grow tall."
Mentioning their son, Li Yifei’s breath hitched, grasping Su Mengxin’s hand, "Our son will be tall."
"Indeed. Returning today, seeing a boy about his age, with thick brows and bright eyes, fair-skinned, running to look at me, reminded me of our son. Had he not gone missing, he’d have been so; he’d call us mom and dad daily."
