Super Soldier in the City

Chapter 1616 - 1668: Hurry Home, No Kissing!

After parking the car, Li Yifei took Chu Xiaoyao’s hand and walked into the night market. This is the largest night market in Mile City, bustling at night, stretching over a thousand meters, with various snacks and small stalls lining both sides. It’s the liveliest place in Mile City at night.

The two arrived here, and Chu Xiaoyao ordered a few types of snacks in a row, drooling and looking like a gluttonous cat waiting for it to be ready. Li Yifei asked her to find a spot, but Chu Xiaoyao shook her head, insisting on waiting there. Hence, Li Yifei went to occupy a spot because there were so many people that if they didn’t find a place, they wouldn’t have anywhere to eat once the food was ready.

With a spot secured, Chu Xiaoyao carried over the first snack, licking her lips, looking eager to eat.

Li Yifei waved his hand, saying, "You start eating, I’ll get the rest."

"Mm-hmm, hurry up, hubby," Chu Xiaoyao nodded repeatedly, completely focused on the delicious food.

A few minutes later, Li Yifei came back with several snacks, only to find two young men sitting in front of Chu Xiaoyao, looking like high school or college students. The two were talking to Chu Xiaoyao and as he got closer, Li Yifei heard them asking Chu Xiaoyao for her WeChat number.

Chu Xiaoyao ignored them and upon seeing Li Yifei return, she smiled brightly and said, "Hubby, hurry up."

The two young men glanced over, saw Li Yifei, and their expressions changed—part surprise, part disappointment—as they said to Chu Xiaoyao, "Sorry to bother you."

After apologizing, the duo stood up and left. Li Yifei put the food down and sat across from Chu Xiaoyao, who used a bamboo skewer to feed him a piece of tripe, saying, "What’s up with today, why do people keep coming over?"

"That’s because you’re too pretty, and those guys can’t help but want to meet you," Li Yifei said, chewing the tripe and couldn’t help but praise, "Delicious, tastes great."

Chu Xiaoyao smacked her lips, fed herself a piece, and said, "Looking good isn’t for them to see, only for you."

"Haha. Can’t just blindfold them all, right?" Li Yifei laughed.

With snacks at hand, the two concentrated on devouring them. Although not refined and perhaps not too clean, the ambiance brought back old feelings for them.

The unspoken rule of the night market is to eat whatever you like, but don’t order too much, or you might end up unable to eat anymore before finishing the street, left only to drool, which is quite irrational. Thus, after finishing these, Chu Xiaoyao made sure to remember not to order the same items again.

From south to north, the two ate quite a lot and finally came to a food stall where they ordered some seafood and a big tub of draft beer. Drinking was Chu Xiaoyao’s idea, and Li Yifei didn’t oppose. As the seafood was served, Chu Xiaoyao raised a large mug of draft beer, clinked it with Li Yifei’s, and with great gusto, poured it down her throat.

She was smiling, but inside she wasn’t happy, which Li Yifei knew, so he hoped she could drink her sorrows away, to ease some of the pain inside. This pain couldn’t be erased just with his companionship; it was the kind of void only she could heal.

Back and forth, Li Yifei drank more while Chu Xiaoyao’s tolerance was always low, and she seldom drank that much at the Li family.

After drinking considerably, Li Yifei went to settle the bill and upon return, found a few shirtless men surrounding their table, with Chu Xiaoyao holding onto the table, looking at these men. One of them was smiling at Chu Xiaoyao, asking, "Little sister, why drink so much when eating alone?"

Chu Xiaoyao was lost in thought staring at a lobster, as if she hadn’t heard his words. When he asked again and didn’t get a response, he got slightly irritated and added, "Come, we’ll drink with you and take you home afterward, alright?"

Li Yifei returned and directly pushed away the two shirtless men, saying to the one who spoke, "This table is taken, go drink elsewhere."

Seeing Li Yifei return, Chu Xiaoyao grinned, eyes blurry from drink, and said, "Hubby, why’d you take so long? I’ve been waiting for ages."

The group of men had come out drinking and, seeing the pretty Chu Xiaoyao, couldn’t resist checking if they might get lucky. "Picking corpses" is a term used within certain sleazy circles, and once they understood Li Yifei and Chu Xiaoyao’s relationship, one of the men laughed and said, "What’s the big deal about someone being here? Couples can divorce, too. You look not young too, out cheating young girls?"

"This is my husband, you guys stop saying nonsense," Chu Xiaoyao defended Li Yifei.

"Hahaha, pretty tough." The big guy laughed, but before he could say another word, Chu Xiaoyao smashed a beer bottle over his head with a bang, shattering the bottle and making the man’s eyes go wide.

An empty beer bottle hurts more than a solid one when hitting someone, and his head started bleeding immediately. The man swayed a bit, somewhat dazed by the hit, but the people around him weren’t; seeing Chu Xiaoyao take action, they cursed angrily and moved to attack.

Chu Xiaoyao tossed the shattered bottle away, giggling, hooked her arm around Li Yifei’s neck, and said, "Hubby, they’re attacking, you have to help me."

Li Yifei grabbed Chu Xiaoyao in his arms as two beer bottles landed on her stomach. Instantly understanding, Xiaoyao grabbed two beer bottles and smashed them over a guy’s head who lunged at them. Though her strength wasn’t great, with Li Yifei helping swing, the force was enough to smash his head, causing a bloody mess.

The hit man’s eyes rolled upward, and he fell to the ground with a thud, hitting the table. Excitedly, Chu Xiaoyao yelled, holding another bottle. Li Yifei advanced forward with a jump, landing in front of another burly guy, and Xiaoyao’s bottle flew out, hitting him again.

Soon, with Li Yifei’s help, Chu Xiaoyao had these six shirtless guys down, all of them looking like fallen river dragons. Meanwhile, a crowd gathered to watch. After dealing with the last person, Li Yifei flung a stack of banknotes to the boss, grabbed Chu Xiaoyao, and dashed through the crowd, beginning to run.

With Chu Xiaoyao in his arms, Li Yifei was not hindered at all; instead, he was exceptionally nimble, quickly turning into a small alley, running across a street, through an intersection, and arriving in a quiet neighborhood before stopping.

As for those beaten guys, they could only accept their bad luck; by the time they got up groggily, Li Yifei and Chu Xiaoyao had already run far away, leaving them frustratedly jumping and cursing in place.

But these guys weren’t exactly innocent; they’re just small-time thugs from Mile City, never up to any good. If Li Yifei hadn’t been there, Chu Xiaoyao would have surely encountered trouble tonight.

The local stall owners didn’t sympathize with them, nor did they call the police, and the owner of the table that got smashed had already hidden in the crowd after collecting the money from Li Yifei. With that money, even with his stall smashed, he had some left over, so no worries. Besides, these jerks often ate without paying, getting beaten up was like venting for the stall owner.

In a gloomy corner of the neighborhood, Li Yifei sat down slowly with Chu Xiaoyao in his arms. Hooking her arms around his neck, Chu Xiaoyao gazed at him with seductive water-like eyes, her little tongue flicking over her lips alluringly, her face wearing a drunken smile. Shamelessly, Chu Xiaoyao whispered to Li Yifei, "Hubby, kiss me."

Even if she hadn’t asked, Li Yifei would have kissed her; he immediately leaned in, capturing Chu Xiaoyao’s soft lips in a wanton kiss.

A stray cat passing by heard the noises and curiously approached, seeing two humans entwined and twisting. It meowed twice, warning them they’d trespassed its territory and better leave quickly, or the Meow Star People would protest.

Unfortunately, the kissing couple was too absorbed to notice the Meow Star People; their eyes saw only each other, hearing only the sounds of kisses and their rapid breathing.

Things got heated, not just for Chu Xiaoyao; Li Yifei also felt like he was about to explode. Before his heart did, they heard two youthful voices approaching. A boy pulling a girl sneaked over, not noticing Li Yifei and Chu Xiaoyao. The boy anxiously said, "Shh, don’t make a sound, just a kiss, just one."

The girl looked reluctant, her face conflicted and frightened. She whispered, "No, I’m... I’m afraid someone will see, and my home is in the building right in front; if my parents see, I’ll..."

"They won’t, it’s so dark here, how could anyone see, just one kiss, okay?" the boy implored softly.

The girl was still afraid, but the boy had already wrapped his arms around her waist, his face closing in on hers. The girl’s body leaned back as far as she could, but there was nowhere to hide; she could only say, "Really can’t... But I’ll let you hold me longer."

"Just one kiss, I promise, just one, then I’ll go home," said the boy.

As he continued to lean in, the girl leaned back even more.

Li Yifei and Chu Xiaoyao had long stopped, watching the two kids. Li Yifei wore a smile, while Chu Xiaoyao pouted and glared, sitting up straight from Li Yifei’s embrace. Just as the boy was about to succeed in kissing the girl, Chu Xiaoyao suddenly coughed and sternly said, "Hurry home, kissing here is out of the question!"

"Ah?" The two kids were startled, jumping up simultaneously. The girl’s first reaction was to push the boy away, grab her backpack, and turn to run, ignoring the boy pushed to the ground.
