Chapter 394: The Hand in the Mirror_1
The corridor lights were still the energy-saving bulbs that Su Xiaomeng had bought with her own money last month, then she asked an electrician for a stepladder and installed them herself; she never expected that in just one month, the lights would already be broken again.
"Forget it, if they’re broken, they’re broken; I’ll just use my phone’s flashlight from now on."
Su Xiaomeng’s rented room was on the third floor. She used the built-in flashlight on her phone to navigate the mottled corridor walls. The stairs here were just bare concrete, and although not dirty and disorganized, they showed the age of the building. Su Xiaomeng never touched the handrails next to the stairs, which were made of wood that had become dirty and black due to the passage of time.
"Click-clack, click-clack..."
The surroundings were terrifyingly quiet—aside from the occasional car horn in the distance, the only sound Su Xiaomeng could hear was her high heels striking the hard concrete stairs.
The elderly uncles and aunties nearby generally went to bed as soon as it got dark, and the neighboring houses, all old as well, had little lighting; even if there were lights, it was hard for them to reach here.
Just as she was about to reach the second floor, Su Xiaomeng’s phone flashlight flickered once and then went out entirely.
Su Xiaomeng hurriedly quickened her pace and made it up to the second floor.
"What happened? My phone isn’t broken."
She unlocked her phone, checked it, and found that it wasn’t damaged before turning the flashlight on again.
