Chapter 121
Koi opened his eyes to the sensation of someone gently shaking his shoulder. He lifted his head, blinking sleepily as he looked around, and a quiet voice came from above.
“Wake up. You need to go home.”
With those words, Koi’s memory finally returned. Ashley had comforted him, then fallen ❖ Nоvеl𝚒ght ❖ (Exclusive on Nоvеl𝚒ght) asleep again. Before he drifted off, Ashley had tightly held his hand, asking him not to leave until he woke up. Koi had waited by his side, holding his hand, and eventually fallen asleep leaning over the edge of the bed.
When he lifted his head, the secretary’s cold eyes were staring down at him. Koi instinctively sobered up, his shoulders stiffening, but then he became aware of Ashley’s hand still in his, and managed to gather a bit of courage.
“I’m... going to wait until Ash wakes up.”
His voice trembled, barely more than a whisper, completely lacking in confidence.
It was the kind of pitiful tone that anyone would mock, and Koi himself felt deflated just hearing it. But surprisingly, the secretary’s expression didn’t change. She spoke in the same cold, businesslike tone.
“It’s already past midnight. If you’re any later, won’t your father start to worry?”
At that, Koi flinched and froze. He wondered just how much she knew about him, but he couldn’t bring himself to ask. If it were earlier, he might have called to say he was staying over at a friend’s house, but he had already missed that window. If he stayed out without saying anything, his father would be absolutely furious.
He hadn’t hit him lately, but...
It had been a while since his father’s attitude started to change. Because of that, Koi held on to a bit of hope. Maybe his father really had changed.
Then all the more reason not to upset him.
