Chapter 25: First Ancient Contact
The old door swung open as Arthur walked up to it. Something magical about the door that responds only to royal blood and letting him in.
Inside was a round room glowing with bright blue-white light, and the air buzzed with magical power.
Arthur stepped in and could feel all the magic around him. Ancient symbols carved into the stone walls lit up when they sensed him. The magical energy here place was stronger than anything he’d felt since coming to this world.
In the middle of the room sat a crystal stand with the kingdom’s royal emblem carved into it. The crystal seemed to breathe with its own inner light, throwing rainbow patterns on the curved walls.
"This is the Heart of Lyranth," Sylrathi said, her purple eyes reflecting the room’s glow. "It’s the kingdom’s ultimate defense system. No one’s touched it for almost a hundred years."
Arthur walked slowly toward the crystal, feeling the weight of ancient magic pressing on his mind. "What do I need to do to activate it?"
"You need royal blood and massive magical power working together perfectly." Sylrathi walked around the crystal stand gracefully, her leather armor making soft creaking sounds.
"Most nobles don’t have enough magic. Others..." She looked at him meaningfully.
When Arthur touched the crystal’s surface, it responded right away. A gentle vibration went up his arm, and the crystal glowed brighter. The feeling went through his bones—like the crystal recognized him, which made his heart race with excitement.
Sylrathi’s movements changed, becoming more predatory as she watched his reaction. "The act is over now, Arthur." Her voice carried ancient authority. "I’m tired of the act you are putting on."
Arthur kept his face neutral. "What act?"
