I Built a Beast Empire After Reincarnation

Chapter 42: Phase Two — The Generals Step In

The battlefield crackled with heat and smoke as the rising sun cast pale light over the blood-soaked fields. Bodies littered the trenches. Broken lances and shattered shields formed makeshift barricades, while smoldering magical glyphs glowed faintly beneath a charred earth crust.

But the battle was far from over.

Lucas stood atop the central watchtower, wind billowing his crimson-lined cloak as he surveyed the aftermath of Phase One.

"Malrick," he said, "detonate the eastern trench glyphs. Wait for my mark."

Below, Malrick gave a silent nod, hands poised over the etched runes. The merchant’s once-cheerful face was now grim, eyes glinting with a strategist’s cold focus.

Lucas turned to his party at the battlements—Kaela, armed and ready, crouched beside Thunderfang in a crouching stance, waiting for blood. Elira, cloaked in wind, stood near the high archer’s platform, Luna already scaled and crouched with bow drawn. Behind them, the Greystone militia braced themselves, nerves strung like drawn wires.

Lucas raised a hand.

A horn sounded in the distance.

Then the enemy surged forward.

From the smoke and wreckage, Stonewatch’s vanguard reformed ranks—shields locked, lances gleaming in the light. Their armor had been scorched, dented, and pierced, but still they advanced, undeterred.

"They’ve hardened," Lucas muttered. "Now comes the real test."
