Chapter 14: Ashes of Roar and Thunder
Greystone's skies were iron-grey as the first morning bell rang from the castle tower. The sounds of hammers and hurried shouts echoed faintly from the outer walls, where guards still reinforced defenses. In the courtyard below, the arrival of the beastkin tribe had drawn attention.
Kaela, her striped tail flicking with tension, stood at the head of her people. Her silver armor glinted faintly in the morning mist. Behind her, the tiger beastkin—tall, lean, scarred from battle—stood with quiet discipline. At her side prowled her beast companion: Thunderfang, a saber-toothed feline crackling with residual static around its paws.
Reynard stepped out first to greet them, sword at his side, brow furrowed with caution.
Kaela inclined her head respectfully. "We have come, not as conquerors, but as survivors. Our people seek refuge."
Lucas emerged soon after, his cloak damp from the early dew, Zephyra circling above, and Umbra padding silently at his side.
Kaela's gaze narrowed at Lucas, not with hostility, but something sharper—respect laced with challenge. She gestured to her warriors.
"My tribe has shed blood trying to hold the line. We failed. I owe you the truth."
Lucas nodded, stepping aside. "Then speak it in the hall. All deserve to hear what the Tide has become."
