Chapter 208: Giant Killer
The situation in the arena was becoming increasingly tense. Against Colton, I could barely deal any damage. Even though the rules were simple, taking down someone like him was anything but easy.
"Urgh!"
I hit the ground hard after blocking one of Colton's attacks. Even defending against him felt like taking a direct hit, the impact alone was overwhelming. If blocking felt this brutal, I couldn't imagine what would happen if I took one of his blows head-on without protection.
"Hahaha! Looks like you're in a pinch, pumpkin. I really love that expression on your face."
"My name is not pumpkin! Do you really enjoy calling people that?" I stood up, brushing the dust off my clothes.
"Yes. Pumpkin is a suitable name for the weak like you. From all the attacks you've used, it's clear you're a magic-heavy class. Against my Minotaur Sentinel class, your attacks are useless. Hahaha!" Colton laughed arrogantly.
Minotaur Sentinel… so that's his class. From the name alone, it clearly focuses on strength and defense. It might even have resistance against magic attacks.
Looks like I need to change my approach against him. For the hundredth time, I felt incredibly lucky to have the Limitless Bond System. Without it, I would have been finished long ago.
"I've already wasted too much time on a weakling like you. People will start talking if I take this long to deal with a mere G-rank adventurer. I will finish this now… and then win this event. Minotaur Rage!"
His body began channeling energy and heat visibly radiating from him. This was not good.
Without warning, he suddenly charged at me with tremendous speed. The sudden burst caught me off guard as I couldn't react in time.
Thump!
Colton slammed into me, wrapping his arms around my body and lifting me off the ground. Without slowing down, he continued rushing toward the edge of the arena.
Oh no! Is he trying to throw me out?
I struggled, punching his back repeatedly, but it felt like striking solid steel.
"Looks like your G-rank guy will be out soon. Against that brat's Minotaur Rage, no one escapes once he gets a hold of them," Gabriel said to Mirinda.
Mirinda didn't respond. She simply focused on the scene unfolding before her.
' What will you do in this kind of situation, Alan? '
There were only a few meters left between me and the edge, and Colton was accelerating even faster. If I didn't do something now, my run in this event would end instantly.
If magic couldn't hurt him directly, then I had to use it differently.
I equipped Shardstorm Mage, my hair and equipment shifting into a midnight blue. A sudden chill spread through the air and Colton felt it too. Frost crept in as his breath turned into visible mist.
'What is this? Why do I suddenly feel cold?'
I cast Ice Shards, but instead of aiming directly at Colton, I scattered them along his path.
Thump! Thump! Thump!
Colton's feet struck the shards as he ran, each step cutting into his legs. He grimaced in pain, his expression twisting as his speed faltered.
Seizing the opportunity, I forced his grip loose and broke free.I used his body as leverage, pushing off him and leaping over to land behind him.
Colton was still charging forward, trying to stop, but the momentum was too great. After struggling for a moment, he finally managed to halt right at the edge of the arena. He let out a breath of relief.
Then he sensed something behind him and turned his head.
His eyes widened as he saw me with ten shards floating beside me and a wide smirk on my face. In that instant, he understood my intention.
"No! No! No! Wait!"
"Go!"
I released all the shards forward without hesitation.
Zoom! Zoom! Zoom!
All the shards struck him in rapid succession. As expected, they didn't injure him at all, but that was never my goal.
Each strike pushed him back, inch by inch. His heels scraping against the arena floor as he struggled to regain his footing. His expression twisted, not from pain, but from the realization of what was happening.
"No!"
The final shard hit and his foot slipped, causing his balance broke. For a split second, his body teetered on the edge and then he fell. A splash heard from below as Colton disappeared into the river.
The crowd was cheering wildly at the scene.
(Amazing! Colton, the A-rank from Red Eyes and the top seed for this category, has been single-handedly eliminated by Alan, the G-rank from Dawnbloom Guild. This is a giant killer!)
"Good job, Alan! You're amazing!" Kim shouted excitedly, jumping and clapping along with the crowd.
"Didn't I tell you? That guy always has a plan," Linus said with a smile.
"Ice magic? How does an ice magic user end up as G-rank? Did you tamper with the ranking system?" Gabriel said, clearly dissatisfied that his guild member had been eliminated by the weakest adventurer in the arena.
"There's no way the Knowledge Orb can be tampered with. The results it produces are nothing but the truth." Bolton, the guildmaster of Gold Fang said as he sipped tea from his cup.
"I already told you, he's not a normal G-rank adventurer," Mirinda said with confidence.
Gabriel clenched his teeth and turned his attention back to the arena. He was furious that his plan to embarrass the Dawnbloom Guild had backfired.
After Colton was defeated, all the Red Eyes members lost their leader. Evelyn and Maya worked together and defeated two enemies. Meanwhile, Blackburn used his high defense to push another two members out of the ring. William single-handedly eliminated three members as he wielded the Emerald sword and shield.
"Dawnbloom guild is very strong!"
All the crowds view on Dawnbloom guild changes. More cheers and support are sent to us.
However, as all the eyes of the crowd were focused on the members of Dawnbloom, we didn't notice something. With the strongest participant out, it opened the opportunity for others to shine in this event.
And one of them was looking at us with ill intent from within the chaos.
