Chapter 28. A new race
A new race
After putting Eris to bed, she fell asleep right away.
'She must have been really tired... Well, anyway, let's go to sleep.'
After I had lain down on the bed, suddenly a hand grabbed mine. I looked at her, and she was still sleeping. Looking closely, I noticed that she was crying. Amidst the tears, I could hear that she was saying something, but I was not able to hear it properly from where I was, so I had to get close.
"Please don't go. I don't want to be alone anymore."
She kept repeating it over and over again, and each time she did, she grew sadder and more agitated. Seeing her in such a state for some reason was painful, but what I truly could not bear was what she said; it made me feel something deep inside, a pain I could not describe.
'What did you go through to be so scared?'
I thought as I hugged her and tried to comfort her, but nothing seemed to work, so I started singing a lullaby. After she calmed down, I whispered a few words in her ear.
"Don't worry, I will not go anywhere."
After hearing these words, she completely relaxed. Seeing her like that put a smile on my face and put my heart at ease.
