Chapter 408: The Orphanage
Logan’s expression didn’t change, but his eyes seemed to flash with anger at Nicklaus’s words. "You’re not responsible?" he repeated, his voice low and menacing. "You’re not responsible for the fact that your associate blew up my mansion, killing everyone I loved?"
Nicklaus’s gaze didn’t waver, but his eyes seemed to cloud over for a moment. "I’m sorry, Logan," he said again, his voice firm but laced with a hint of regret. "But I didn’t order Adam to do that. And even if I had, you know as well as I do that he was a wild card. Unpredictable and unreliable."
Logan’s face twisted into a snarl, his burned skin pulling taut over his cheekbones. "You’re just trying to deflect responsibility," he spat, his voice venomous. "But its way past that, Nicklaus. You’re going to pay for what happened to my family."
Logan regretted not being able to take his revenge on Adams and Arissa’s father himself.
Nicklaus’s expression remained calm, but his eyes seemed to gleam with a hint of defiance. "Paying you doesn’t go beyond wealth, does it?" he asked, his voice steady.
Logan laughed. "We’ll see about that," he said, his eyes glinting with malice. "You’re also going to regret underestimating me, Nicklaus."
He went on, "You know what disgust me the most? The privileges you enjoy shouldn’t be yours,"
Nicklaus breath steadied. His battle with Logan goes years back to when they were in the orphanage. Logan had expected to be adopted so it came as a shock with hate when Nicklaus got adopted instead of him.
Logan never talked, and they never shared anthing in common for them to be friends back in the orphanage. It was until recent he recognized Logan to be one of the kids he shared the home with.
