His Toxic Addiction

"Am I not allowed to contact you?" the voice from the other end asked Nicklaus, "Whereas, we’re business partners and soon, we will become families,"

Nicklaus’s mind turned numb for a moment and when his brain resumed functioning again, he clenched his fist by his side and tried to control the anger running through his veins.

"What do you mean by families, Mr. Robert?" he questioned with a stern voice, trying his hardest to be polite which was nearly impossible as his anger was about to get the best out of him.

Mr. Robert sighed from the other end and said slowly, "I said families because that’s what we would become perhaps in the next coming week. You are to cast your wife aside now because she’s no longer of any benefit that you need and come to think about it, having a new wife the higher-ups can benefit from screams more promotion and that’s wonderful for someone as young as you are," he waited for his words to sink into Nicklaus’s head before adding, "And I don’t mind you having my daughter Raquel as a wife. She also doesn’t mind and since you both have been together for a short while in the past, it makes it easier."

Nicklaus chuckled, sounding amused, "Is this what your incompetent leader agreed on with you all? If so, ask him to pass the news himself to me and stop being a weakling by sending a lowlife like you who can’t know anything other thing than means of greed," he said.

Unlike before, Mr. Robert did not fume in the face of Nicklaus’s downgrades. He waited for the young man to finish and when Nicklaus did, he took his sweet time to say, "Quite brave of you to call Mr. De Guzmen incompetent," he clicked his tongue, "I must applause you on that but just so you know, your company won’t stand without him. Also, it’s high time you mind how you talk to me unless you want your greatest secret to be out to the members of the higher-ups," he threatened.

Nicklaus’s flat expression turned disgusted, "Are you threatening me?" his voice sounded more like a threat than a question, and for some reason, Mr. Robert at the other end shivered a little as he felt cold from Nicklaus’s icy tune.

However, Mr. Robert managed to sound brave as he replied, "This is no threat, Nicklaus Wyatt. I came across some pretty interesting news from a newfound good friend of mine. Luckily, he informed me about your huge role in Alfred’s case and how you landed the man’s ass behind bars,"

Nicklaus did not expect this news but he wasn’t taken aback by it. He remained unfazed and parted his thin lips without interest, "And?"

"Huh?"

Nicklaus set his right long leg out and made a very nonchalant and arrogant pose as he asked again, "And?"

Stunned by how nonchalant Nicklaus sounded, Mr. Robert assumed the boy was acting brave but wasn’t. He figured more words would break Nicklaus and decided to put words into use.
