His Toxic Addiction

Laura called her husband for the hundredth time and as usual, the call abruptly broke off. Throwing her phone violently to the bed, a sinister look replaced her worried expression. Hastily seating on the bed, she picked up her phone again and this time, she called Mr. Adams. After two rings, the phone was answered from the other end.

"Adams!"

"Mrs. Lincoln," Adams responded respectfully from the other end.

Laura rolled her eyes backward at the title he used in addressing her. For the longest time, she had tried all she could to accept her title but as it turns out, her heart still yearns for another man’s name.

"Where’s Alfred?"

"We are now in Germany," Mr. Adams replied making his voice a bit hesitant so Laura would believe whatever he has to tell her.

"Germany?" Laura asked as her voice broke but not on the inside. For all she cares, Alfred could be anywhere he wants and also, decide to die anytime soon. All he has to do is to write her name as his next of kin on his death will since rightfully, the company belongs to her.

"He’s on vacation. Didn’t he tell you, Mrs!" Mr. Adams asked. His voice was pretentiously concerned.
