Chapter 18 : Final Three-way Relay

The relay race ended with us finishing in second place, and after the competition, I headed towards the red tent while still carrying Arisu. For some reason, there was applause even then, but I didn't have the energy to care about such things anymore.
"I'm sorry about that. I didn't mean to do something like that all of a sudden."
"...No, it was actually a good experience for me..."
For some reason, Arisu wouldn't look me in the eye and spoke to me with her back turned, though her voice was very quiet.
"By the way, could you thank Hashimoto for me? We managed to get second place thanks to him."
Her reaction to my words was excessive, and it seemed like she understood what I said with her usual intelligence. Her face, which had been completely red before, lost some of its redness and transformed into a wicked smile.
"...I see. I thought it was strange that Hachiman-kun would do something like that. I understand now. I will make sure to give Hashimoto-kun a proper 'thank you.'"
Hmm? It felt like her way of saying things was a bit different, but...
"Thanks. Well, I need to participate in the next event, so I'll be going now."
"Yes. Good luck. Even though you're my opponent, I'm rooting for you."
