Betrayed By The Hero, Loved By The Lord

Chapter 29: Enjoying your company (2)

"Would you like a chair?"

"Thank you but I do not need one. I won’t be here much longer," Selene said, looking away from the window to the butler. "I was only looking to see if his carriage was there. It must be a long ride to see his parents."

"It is but the lord has his ways of being quick," Harold replied.

Selene stepped away from the window to get closer to Harold. "I am curious what his relationship with his parents is like now. Is he close to both of them?"

"His parents, mostly his mother, frequent the estate when they can. He is close to his mother but it isn’t the same with his father. You must speak to the lord about his relationship with his father. I do not want to tell you the story wrong," said Harold.

"I will. I am waiting to ask if the visit went well. You have been around Xavier and his family for a long time. Who will present the greatest challenge in welcoming me into the family? I will not speak of this to anyone to get you in trouble. I just need to know," Selene said, hoping to get an opinion aside from Xaviers.

"I have some memories of his mother. She was always a kind woman when I saw her but that was long ago when I was a young girl. I have seen his father but was never around him much to know what he is like. I need to know what to prepare for," said Selene.

"In all honesty, you might be able to win Lady Josephine for the mere fact Xavier is getting married but she will not go easy on you. She will expect you to be the perfect lady. I must warn you that the lady doesn’t like anyone who will tarnish Xavier’s reputation though it mostly consists of people fearing him. As for his father," Harold stopped, hesitating to tell the truth.

"Tell me," Selene urged him to continue. "I can take the truth."
